Festive Giving at Century Offices: Supporting Children, Hospitals, and Our Community

“Spreading Christmas Cheer,
One Jumper at a Time”

At Century Offices, Christmas is about more than decorations and mince pies – it’s about giving back. This festive season, our team came together to support two meaningful causes: Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children and Giving Tuesday in aid of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charity Christmas Wish List Appeal.

Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children 🎄🧦

Our offices were filled with festive cheer as the Century Offices team donned their brightest, boldest, and most festive Christmas jumpers in support of Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

By taking part, we helped raise vital funds to support children in the UK and
around the world – helping to ensure they stay safe, healthy, and have access
to education, especially during the most challenging times.

Highlights Included:

  • Festive jumpers across all teams.
  • Donations raised through – Guess the number of Jumpers, Guess the Teddy’s name and Guess the Jingle!
  • A great opportunity to come together for a fun, meaningful cause.

“It’s amazing how something as simple as wearing a Christmas jumper and a few games can help make such a big difference.”

Giving Tuesday & the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charity 💙

To continue the spirit of generosity, Century Offices also supported Giving Tuesday by contributing to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charity Christmas Wish List Appeal.

This appeal helps bring comfort and joy to children spending Christmas in hospital by funding thoughtful gifts, activities, and essential items that can make a difficult time a little brighter.

Our team was proud to support a local cause that directly benefits patients, families, and NHS staff within our community.

What the Appeal Supports:

  • Gifts for children spending Christmas in hospital
  • Festive activities and decorations on wards
  • Comfort items for patients and families

Why Giving Back Matters to Century Offices
Our Commitment to the Community:

At Century Offices, we believe businesses play an important role in supporting both local and national charities. Whether it’s global initiatives like Save the Children or local causes such as Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charity, giving back is part of who we are.
These festive initiatives not only help worthy causes, but also bring our team together, strengthen our values, and remind us of the importance of kindness – especially at Christmas.

As the year comes to a close, we’d like to thank our incredible team for their generosity and festive spirit. We’re proud to support causes that make a real difference and look forward to continuing our community efforts in the year ahead.

Changing the Conversation: ‘Time to Talk Day’ and Ending Mental Health Stigma

Mental health is a crucial part of our lives, yet it often stays hidden because of stigma and misunderstanding. Fortunately, a movement is growing to change that—Time to Talk Day. This annual event encourages open discussions about mental health, creating a vital opportunity to break the silence and build supportive communities. So, what is Time to Talk Day, and how can you get involved?
What is Time to Talk Day? Time to Talk Day is an annual initiative led by mental health charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, in collaboration with Co-op. Time to Talk Day was launched in 2014 as part of the Time to Change campaign and the event aims to promote the importance of talking about mental health with our family, friends, and colleagues. The campaign specifically tackles the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health, urging individuals to engage in conversations. The goal? To create communities that make discussing mental health a normal part of our lives. Research has shown that about 1 in 4 people experience mental health issues each year in the UK, making conversations more crucial than ever.

The Importance of Conversation

Everyone has mental health, just like everyone has a physical health. Recognizing this is extremely important. Conversations about mental health can be transformative, yet many people hold back due to fear of judgment. Time to Talk Day works to erase these fears by encouraging open and honest discussions. Starting a conversation isn’t just about seeking help; it’s about regularly checking in on those around us. The best thing is you don’t need to be a mental health expert, often, simply listening can be the greatest support you can offer. A survey by Time to Change found that 85% of people who have talked about their mental health felt an improvement in their well-being. This highlights how sharing our experiences can foster a supportive and compassionate community.

Practical Ways to Start the Conversation:

Discussing mental health may feel intimidating. Here are a few actionable tips to help you start these important dialogues: 1. Choose the Right Setting: opt for a comfortable and private space where you can converse without distractions. This can be a quiet café, a nearby park, or even a cozy corner at work that promotes relaxation. 2. Use Open-Ended Questions: Encourage open dialogue by asking questions that invite thoughtful responses. Instead of asking, “Are you okay?”, try saying “How have you been feeling lately?” This encourages a more expansive discussion. 3. Share Your Own Experiences: By talking about your own mental health journey, you may inspire others to open-up. Personal stories create valuable connections and help reduce barriers. 4. Listen Actively: When someone shares their feelings, listen without judgment. Empathize with their experiences and avoid giving unsolicited advice. 5. Provide Resources: If someone expresses difficulty, offer them information about local mental health support services. This small act can make a significant difference.

Creating Supportive Communities

Supporting one another can begin in our homes or workplaces. Time to Talk Day encourages everyone to make mental health part of their daily conversations. Here are a couple of practical steps to help create a supportive environment: 1. Start with Yourself: Sharing your own experiences and struggles can open the door for others. Research shows that people feel more inclined to share when they see vulnerability demonstrated. 2. Incorporate Mental Health into Daily Chats at work: Instead of skimming over how we feel, make it a point to ask your colleagues about their feelings. A simple “How are you really doing?” can make a big difference. Consider organizing a work coffee morning or casual workshops focused on mental health. These gatherings create a safe space for discussion, allowing individuals to share experiences and gain support. According to a survey, 45% of people who attend such events report feeling less isolated afterward.

The Impact of Talking

Talking about mental health goes beyond just one day; it can lead to lasting effects. By fostering conversations, we help create a culture of openness, understanding, and support in our communities. While starting these discussions might feel intimidating at first, the more we practice, the more natural it becomes. On Time to Talk Day, let’s commit to making mental health discussions a regular habit. You may be surprised by how your willingness to share your own story can profoundly impact someone else’s life.

Steps to Take After Time to Talk Day

Though Time to Talk Day is a focused initiative, the conversation should not end after one day. Here are some steps to continue fostering these discussions: > Organize Regular Discussions: Create opportunities for ongoing conversations in your community, workplace, or with family and friends. > Consider monthly meetups to check on each other’s mental health. > Educate Yourself: Take time to learn more about mental health issues and support strategies. Being well-informed helps you engage with others in a more meaningful way. >Support Mental Health Initiatives: Get involved with local mental health organizations that share the goals of Time to Talk Day. >Volunteering or participating in events can help extend awareness efforts.

Let’s Make it a Habit

As Time to Talk Day nears, Century Offices would like to embrace the chance to connect, break down barriers, and cultivate a culture of understanding around mental health. On the day, Century Offices will be holding a coffee morning in the breakout areas where clients and their teams can take advantage of the free tea, coffee and biscuits – there’s nothing better than having a brew and a chat. Remember, we all have mental health, and we can all contribute to a supportive environment. Let’s talk, listen, and support one another. Time to Talk Day is not just an event; it’s a movement. Join us and help keep these essential conversations alive throughout the year!

Are there any left-handers in the office?

Are there any left handers in the office?

August the 13th is left handers day and is about celebrating all those who have mastered how to use their left hands in what is essentially a right-handed

world. It is also a day to raise awareness around some of the issues left handers face.

It is believed that approximately 11% of the population are left handers but it is unknown why some people develop left-handedness.

Some of the struggles that left handers may face in the offices include – using spiral notebooks, not having access to left-handed scissors, workstations laid out incorrectly.

Key findings have revealed that 96.7% of UK employers don’t ask if a new employee is left-handed and only 25.4% of businesses provide left-handed
staff with specialist office equipment and stationery.

By carrying out workstation assessments you can ensure that your staff have the right equipment which can increase productivity, this will also help ensure
that your staff feel valued and accepted.

However, there are many advantages of being left-handed which include being more creative with visual arts, a better athlete, able to pass driving test easier, being a faster typist and better at multitasking.
