Are there any left handers in the office?

August the 13th is left handers day and is about celebrating all those who have mastered how to use their left hands in what is essentially a right-handed

world. It is also a day to raise awareness around some of the issues left handers face.

It is believed that approximately 11% of the population are left handers but it is unknown why some people develop left-handedness.

Some of the struggles that left handers may face in the offices include – using spiral notebooks, not having access to left-handed scissors, workstations laid out incorrectly.

Key findings have revealed that 96.7% of UK employers don’t ask if a new employee is left-handed and only 25.4% of businesses provide left-handed
staff with specialist office equipment and stationery.

By carrying out workstation assessments you can ensure that your staff have the right equipment which can increase productivity, this will also help ensure
that your staff feel valued and accepted.

However, there are many advantages of being left-handed which include being more creative with visual arts, a better athlete, able to pass driving test easier, being a faster typist and better at multitasking.
